It's the end of an era! Bloomsburg-based rock band Grey Mourning has decided after fifteen years off and on, to take a different approach and go on an indefinite hiatus! However, the band members sat down with Alonna for the second time to discuss beginnings, the end of Grey Mourning, and future plans for themselves as musicians, and as a band. *Sunday, December 29th, 2019* 1.)Can you give us a general introduction to your band? Sounds of the Season: Penn State's A Capella Group

Image
Photo: Penn State It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Holidays, time with family, and most importantly: Music. At Penn State Main Campus, in University Park, Pennsylvania, you can catch their amazing a capella group at the beginning and end of each semester, it’s something that you definitely will not want to miss! The a capella group is a group of students from a wide variety of majors and backgrounds who all have one thing in common, a passion for music. They’re ultimate goal is to be a creative outlet for everyone involved, especially those who aren’t typically involved in music or performing arts aside from the group. The group is composed of all students, with one advisor, who helps with logistics (applying for funding, etc), helps advertise, and is “just overall lovely and supportive, treating us all like we’re her own family” said Haley Casperson, the director of the group.  The group is comprised of multiple soloists, who are determined at rehearsals via auditi

Hidden Treasures: Interview with Alfie Picone of La Dolce Casa

Photo: La Dolce Casa La Dolce Casa is Italian for "Home Sweet Home" and Tamaqua's own La Dolce Casa(DiMaggio's) most definitely lives up to its name. In business since 1987, the restaurant offers genuine Italian cuisine that you won't find anywhere else. From the moment you step in the door, you are immediately greeted with open arms and a smile. The atmosphere is inviting, and welcoming, as if the owner himself, Mr. Alfie Picone, is inviting you into his own home. From the intricate paintings, to the decoratively painted windows every Christmas, (which includes a massive tree displayed on the sidewalk on West Broad Street), to the live music, to the warm and inviting atmosphere, it is clear that when you are at La Dolce Casa, you are most definitely family.  Alonna has been coming to La Dolce Casa since she was a toddler, and it has always been, and will continue to be a favorite of hers, which is why she was able to catch up with Alfie for a couple short q

No Rain Checks EP Review

Photo credit: No Rain Checks Facebook page If you’ve ever been at the store, and you found out an item was out of stock and you heard the phrase “Let’s take a rain check” then you’d probably be really disappointed to find out that there are “No Rain Checks”. However, in the heart of Schuylkill County, lies Pottsville, and in Pottsville, we find that there are, indeed, “No Rain Checks”, except, this time, it’s a GOOD thing that there are none, because you are not going to want to miss out on this up-and-coming band. The band, ‘No Rain Checks’ is a hard rock band comprised of Max Bolton, pulling vocal and guitar duties, Austin Blackman on bass and vocals, and Josh Bishop on drums.  The EP opens with the track, “Falling”, which right off the bat gives off a heavy Sex Pistols vibe. For those who are unfamiliar with Sex Pistols, they were a British punk band who dominated the scene in the early to mid 1970’s. No Rain Checks doesn’t make any indication of Sex Pistols b

Photo: Spud on Facebook. When we think of "Spuds" we think of potatoes, but in Lehman, Pennsylvania, you'll find something far more different from that. Alonna and Jordyn were fortunate enough to be able to catch up with Progressive Americana band, 'Spud', this past Tuesday, and ask them some questions, and here's what they had to say! Let’s start off with your names and your role in the band! -Steve and I play bass. Matt, and I play guitar and sing, and play some harmonica every once in a while. Sam, and I play guitar and mandolin every now and again. Our drummer is C.W Thomas for right now! He’s been drumming for his whole life. We went through a series of drummers, but C.W is our main man. Who thought of the name Spud? -It just kind of came. It is and always will be. It’s catchy and easy to say.  What musicians inspired each one of you? Sam- The Beatles were my first main thing, but from there it just kind of went to everythin
