Hidden Treasures: Interview with Alfie Picone of La Dolce Casa

Photo: La Dolce Casa La Dolce Casa is Italian for "Home Sweet Home" and Tamaqua's own La Dolce Casa(DiMaggio's) most definitely lives up to its name. In business since 1987, the restaurant offers genuine Italian cuisine that you won't find anywhere else. From the moment you step in the door, you are immediately greeted with open arms and a smile. The atmosphere is inviting, and welcoming, as if the owner himself, Mr. Alfie Picone, is inviting you into his own home. From the intricate paintings, to the decoratively painted windows every Christmas, (which includes a massive tree displayed on the sidewalk on West Broad Street), to the live music, to the warm and inviting atmosphere, it is clear that when you are at La Dolce Casa, you are most definitely family.  Alonna has been coming to La Dolce Casa since she was a toddler, and it has always been, and will continue to be a favorite of hers, which is why she was able to catch up with Alfie for a couple short q

No Rain Checks EP Review

  Photo credit: No Rain Checks Facebook page If you’ve ever been at the store, and you found out an item was out of stock and you heard the phrase “Let’s take a rain check” then you’d probably be really disappointed to find out that there are “No Rain Checks”. However, in the heart of Schuylkill County, lies Pottsville, and in Pottsville, we find that there are, indeed, “No Rain Checks”, except, this time, it’s a GOOD thing that there are none, because you are not going to want to miss out on this up-and-coming band. The band, ‘No Rain Checks’ is a hard rock band comprised of Max Bolton, pulling vocal and guitar duties, Austin Blackman on bass and vocals, and Josh Bishop on drums.  The EP opens with the track, “Falling”, which right off the bat gives off a heavy Sex Pistols vibe. For those who are unfamiliar with Sex Pistols, they were a British punk band who dominated the scene in the early to mid 1970’s. No Rain Checks doesn’t make any indication of Sex Pistols b
